North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced the arrest of Zionna Monae Reid, 25, of 2727 Tallu Rd., Charlotte. Reid is charged with four counts of insurance fraud and one count of making a false statement in an application for insurance. All five charges are felonies.

According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Reid collected $32,904 from claims filed to State Farm Insurance, which were later determined to be false. Altered and fake invoices were submitted as proof of loss in pursuit to try to falsely obtain payment for the claims.

Reid filed an additional claim to Liberty Mutual Insurance. When applying for insurance with the company, she stated that she had not filed any insurance claims in the past five years, which agents determined was false.

The offenses occurred on Dec. 16, 2020 and June 18, 2021, according to the warrant.

Reid was arrested on Sept. 10, 2024. She was given a secured bond of $10,000 for charges in Gaston County and a secured bond of $40,000 for charges in Mecklenburg County.

She appeared in Mecklenburg County District Court on July 9. She is also set to appear in Gaston County District Court on July 21.

“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
