Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of 70 individuals charged with rate evasion in Mecklenburg County.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse the defendants of deliberately evading automobile insurance rates in Mecklenburg County by fraudulently reporting the same address at 8814 Silver Charm Lane, Waxhaw. Investigators allege that 70 taxi and limousine drivers were attempting to evade the higher automobile insurance premiums in Charlotte.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Jeffrey Mitchell Bland, 50, of 11121 Old Stage Road, Willow Spring; he is charged with one count each of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Bland of fraudulently reporting his vehicle was stolen at gunpoint on Jan. 20, 2017, and receiving $1,022.14 in insurance payment from USAA Insurance Company. Investigators allege Bland traded the vehicle in exchange for drugs prior to the vehicle being involved in a collision.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Cathy Parris Wooten, 35, of 4518 Langwood Way, Rocky Mount; she is charged with one count each of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Wooten of presenting a false statement to Benson Police Department and fraudulent claim to National General Insurance reporting her vehicle was stolen to receive payment. Investigators allege Wooten allowed an unlicensed driver, Eddie Shaun Anderson, to operate the vehicle which he wrecked.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Jennifer Gosseck Arriola, 35, of 2610 Longleaf Drive, Pinehurst; she is charged with one count of insurance fraud.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Arriola of presenting a fraudulent statement to United Services Automobile Association regarding her automobile accident on Jan. 7, 2017. Investigators allege Arriola purchased full coverage on her automobile after the accident occurred.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Stacy Dewhite Brown, 50, of 8716 Neuse Village Court, Raleigh; he is charged with one count each of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Brown of filing a fraudulent claim stating his vehicle was stolen in an attempt to obtain $2,554 payment from National General Insurance Company on Nov. 19, 2016. Investigators allege Brown loaned the vehicle to someone.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Devin Jerome Perry, 34, of 110 Daniels Lane, Warrenton; he is charged with one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Perry of providing fraudulent information to Farm Bureau Insurance Company claiming his vehicle was stolen on Jan. 22, 2017 to pay a lower deductible. Investigators allege Perry wrecked his vehicle on the same day he made the claim.
Perry was arrested on Feb. 20 in Warren County and placed under a $1,000 bond.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Antonio Dequank Applewhite, 39, of 1710 Dartmore Drive, Wilson; he is charged with one count each of insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and filing a false police report.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Applewhite of providing fraudulent statements to Allstate Insurance Company and law enforcement that he was in a car involved in an automobile accident in an attempt to obtain medical payment. Investigators allege Applewhite was not involved in the accident.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Keith Darrell Robinson, 30, of 4530 Mica Court, Greensboro; he is charged with one count each of insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Robinson of submitting fictitious medical documents in support of a claim filed with North Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company on Feb. 15, 2016, regarding a motor vehicle accident. Investigators allege Robinson received $5,000 in Med Pay.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Rickie Nelson Brinkley, 27, of 825 Tobacco Road, Rocky Mount; he is charged with one count of insurance fraud.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Brinkley of fraudulently claiming the damage to his vehicle happened after he purchased coverage with Progressive Auto Insurance on Dec. 21, 2016. Investigators allege Brinkley claimed the damage occurred on Dec. 22, 2016, but determined pictures of the damage were taken on Dec. 21, 2016.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Shemeka Erika Joyner, 34, of 117 Jerry Lane, Windsor; she is charged with one count of insurance fraud.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Joyner of filing a claim for pre-existing automobile damages with Sentry Insurance on Dec. 20, 2016. Investigators allege Joyner filed the same claim with National General Insurance in June 2016.
Joyner was arrested on Feb. 10 in Bertie County and released under a signed promise to appear in court.
