North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Derek Urban Ezzell, 56, of 9695 Moss Plantation Ave. NW, Concord, was charged with identity theft and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Ezzell, an insurance agent, of using another man’s identifying information to submit a life insurance application in his name without his knowledge.The offenses occurred on April 25.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Malik Amir Rudolph, 28, of 3425 Sunbright Lane, Raleigh. Rudolph was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.According to the arrest warrant, Rudolph attempted to collect on an automobile insurance claim with Geico Insurance Co. by providing false information to the company.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has set April 8, 2024 as the hearing date for the North Carolina Rate Bureau’s proposed 50.6% dwelling insurance rate increase. “We are not in agreement with the Rate Bureau’s proposed increases filed July 13, 2023,” said Commissioner Causey. “The next step, according to statute, is to set a hearing date. It is now necessary to hold a hearing to reach a resolution that will make the most financial sense for our residents and insurance companies.”

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Taylor Lyndsey Simmons, 24, of 1533 Ellis Road, Durham. Simmons was charged with insurance fraud and identity theft, both felonies.Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Simmons of obtaining two insurance policies in her father’s name without his knowledge or permission. Simmons completed online applications and made multiple phone calls pretending to be her father, according to the arrest warrant.
