North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Anthony Randy Osborne, 29, of 302 Peterson Lane, Windsor. Osborne was charged with common law forgery, common law uttering and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, all felonies.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has announced that the North Carolina Department of Insurance saved or recovered nearly $130 million for North Carolinians in 2023. This amount represents the best single year on record in recoveries since Commissioner Causey took office in January 2017. The recovered funds include those from insurance fraud restitution and external reviews. The department also announced a record 505 arrests via its Criminal Investigations Division.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Jimmy Dwayne Carranza, 31, of 625 Pilgrim Road, Ellenboro. Carranza was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, a felony.Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Carranza, a licensed insurance agent, of obtaining $14,708.61 in advanced insurance commissions by writing several life insurance policies without the clients’ permission, forging their signatures and providing other false information.The offense occurred on Aug. 1, 2023.

After an EF-1 tornado ravaged parts of Garner, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is urging the state’s consumers to check with their insurance agent to review their policies and make sure they are covered from the effects of natural disasters.The tornado touched down last Sunday in Garner uprooting trees and damaging homes and cars while carrying top wind speeds of 110 miles per hour.The town of Garner reported more than 20 homes were damaged after Sunday's storm. Four of those homes are now uninhabitable.

The goal is to reinforce home fire safety efforts during the holiday season by showing just how quickly a dry Christmas tree can burn and spread flames throughout a room.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey sounded the alarm to North Carolina Medicare and health insurance consumers as the end of the open enrollment period nears for both Medicare and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) programs.“We are getting numerous complaints from ACA consumers across the state who believe their plan was changed without their authorization,” Commissioner Causey said. “As for Medicare beneficiaries, we are getting reports that they have been billed for equipment and supplies they never ordered.”
