North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Anthony Dashawn Hudson, 25, of 1884 Rebecca Kennedy Road, Rocky Point, N.C. Hudson was charged with the burning of personal property, insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense. All three charges are felonies.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Montavia Miguel Moody, 34, 153 Birch Lane, Seaboard. Moody was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Moody of presenting a forged doctor’s note to Integon Insurance Co. after a car accident in an effort to receive payment of lost wages. The offense occurred on July 22, 2023.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Troy Jermaine Johnson, 43, of 1533 Pleasant Garden Lane, Raleigh. Johnson was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Johnson of providing false documents and statements to Progressive Premier Insurance Co. of Illinois in an attempt to collect on a $3,000 automobile insurance claim. The offense occurred March 13, 2023.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that an extensive investigation by special agents within the department’s Criminal Investigations Division has led to charges against two individuals.Maria Nichole Brown, 36, of 2948 Coronet Way, Charlotte, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense. Ronald Wayne Baxter, 52, of 1009 Benning St., Durham, was arrested for possession of stolen goods as part of the same investigation. All three counts are felonies.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Jimmy Dwayne Carranza, 31, of 625 Pilgrim Road, Ellenboro. Carranza was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, a felony.Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Carranza, a licensed insurance agent, of obtaining $14,708.61 in advanced insurance commissions by writing several life insurance policies without the clients’ permission, forging their signatures and providing other false information.The offense occurred on Aug. 1, 2023.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Jessica Nicole Hunter, 36, of 4214 Simmerson Road, Linwood, was charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Hunter of falsely claiming that her home, which had been damaged by lightning, was uninhabitable when she requested an extended hotel stay.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Mary Vaughan Early, 57, of 130 Peach Tree Lane, Ahoskie.Early was charged with 23 counts of identity theft, 21 counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, two counts of obtaining property by false pretense and 23 counts of common law forgery, all felonies.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey sounded the alarm to North Carolina Medicare and health insurance consumers as the end of the open enrollment period nears for both Medicare and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) programs.“We are getting numerous complaints from ACA consumers across the state who believe their plan was changed without their authorization,” Commissioner Causey said. “As for Medicare beneficiaries, we are getting reports that they have been billed for equipment and supplies they never ordered.”
