North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Thomas Jefferson Sappelt, 33, of 500 Smith Level Road, Carrboro, was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, a felony, along with a misdemeanor count of common law forgery.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Sappelt of presenting a fraudulent certificate of liability of insurance to Resource Property Management to obtain a $8,050 roofing contract.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Richard Edward Taylor Jr., 31, and Carrington Marie Purgason, 26, both of 804 Bryce Court, Wilmington. Both are charged with insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense, all felonies.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse the two of conspiring to obtain money in an automobile insurance claim from Government Employees Insurance Co.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Daniel Andres Guerra, 24, of 805 S. Meadow Road, Raleigh. Guerra was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Guerra of reporting his vehicle stolen after being involved in a collision and leaving the scene of the crash.
According to the arrest warrant, Guerra was making a claim with National General Insurance Co.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Samuel Stacy Whitlock-Macrae, 52, of 105 Perriwinkle Place, Durham. Whitlock-Macrae was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Whitlock-Macrae of providing false information in an automobile accident claim with Progressive Insurance.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Darihana Mejia, 32, of 901 Navaho Drive, Raleigh. Mejia was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Mejia of falsely reporting to Peak Property and Casualty Co. that damage to her 2020 Ford Explorer’s taillight, rear quarter panel and rear bumper was new damage.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Yolanda Taylor Edmonds, 40, of 8013 N.C. 96 North, Oxford. Edmonds was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Edmonds of telling Dairyland Peak Property and Casualty Insurance that damage to her automobile crash occurred after she reinstated her policy when it occurred before the reinstatement.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Littlejohn of telling Integon Insurance and Winston-Salem police that her Chevrolet Camaro LX had been stolen when her ex-boyfriend had the vehicle.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Timira Chiquita Glaspy, 31, of 4440 Merlane Drive, Charlotte, and Dandre Lamar Morrison, 33, of 4433 Knollcrest Drive, Charlotte, were both charged with insurance fraud, a felony, and misdemeanor making false statements on applications for insurance.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Tasharn Monique Gilchrist, 48, of 1711 Liberty St., Durham, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.
According to the criminal summons, Gilchrist provided N.C. Farm Bureau Insurance Co. with fraudulent documents from her employer showing that she missed three days of work after an automobile crash when she did not miss work.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Brittany Stafford Driver, 35, of 853 Charlie Tapp Road, Roxboro. Driver was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, a felony.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Driver of obtaining $2,145.73 from Cuna Mutual Group Insurance by continuing to receive disability insurance payments past the medically prescribed date.
