Renew or Change an Insurance Business License

License Renewal

Corporations, Partnerships, Portable Electronics Business Entity, Public Adjuster, Self-Service Storage and Auto Rental Limited Lines Business Entity licenses renew annually on April 1.

2018 Business Entity License Renewal Notification

Surplus Lines Business Entity licenses renew annually on September 1.

Agent Services Division will process all license renewals for residents and non-residents electronically through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Renewals are required to be completed electronically pursuant to North Carolina Administrative Code, 11 NCAC 06A .0201.

License Changes

Request a Duplicate Copy of a License

To request a duplicate license, call Agent Services Division at 919-807-6800, send an e-mail request to ASD@ncdoi.gov, or submit a written request to Agent Services Division, 1204 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1204. The request must include the AGENCY name, TAX IDENTIFICATION NUMBER, current mailing address and type of license.te Copy of a License.

License Name Change

Send written notification to Agent Services Division, 1204 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1204. The notification must include the previous and new name and tax identification number. IF THE NAME CHANGE ALSO INVOLVES A CHANGE OF TAX IDENTIFICATION NUMBER, THEN THE BUSINESS ENTITY MUST REAPPLY FOR LICENSURE USING THE NC-CP APPLICATION, FEE, AND ATTACH THE REQUIRED CERTIFICATE OF AUTHORITY FROM THE NC SECRETARY OF STATE SHOWING THE NEW NAME.

Change My Address of Record

According to N.C.G.S. 58-2-69(b) "Every licensee shall give written notification to the Commissioner of any change of the licensee's residential address within 10 business days after the licensee moves into their new residence. Effective 01/01/2010, every licensee shall provide a valid e-mail address and give written notification to the Commissioner of any change to the licensee’s email address within 10 business days after the change. Failure to update resident address or e-mail within 10 business days shall result in a $50.00 fee. Licensees may change their resident and e-mail address by completing the Change of Address Form. Licensees are required to provide current e-mail addresses because Agent Services Division plans to send license notifications via e-mail in the future. Completed forms may be scanned and e-mailed to ASD@ncdoi.gov, faxed to 919-715-3794, or mailed to Agent Services Division, 1204 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1204.

License Cancellation Requests

Return the license(s) with a written request to cancel them. Be sure the request is signed. If you are unable to find your license(s), submit a notarized statement requesting license cancellation. The statement must be signed and must indicate which licenses you wish canceled. Indicate THE AGENCY NAME AND TAX IDENTIFICATION NUMBER.
