Financial Examination

The Financial Examination Division regulates all authorized insurers, managing general agents, accredited reinsurers, for compliance with the solvency laws of this state. The ultimate objective of this regulation is to reduce the likelihood of any of these entities failing or to mitigate the effect of any of these entities’ insolvency on the insurance consumers of this state.

The Financial Examination Division conducts on-site examinations of insurance companies domiciled and operating in North Carolina to determine financial condition, legality and propriety of operations and fair and equitable treatment of all policyholders. An Examination Report is prepared based on the results of the field examination. The work is guided by state laws and regulations, departmental policies and procedures, and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners
